Losing Our Sh*t Over ChatGPT. OpenAI, the research company that has…

#artificialintelligence

OpenAI, the research company that has caused writing teachers to collectively lose their shit through the development of their ChatGPT tool, declares that its mission is to "ensure that artificial general intelligence benefits all of humanity." ChatGPT is an AI language model developed by OpenAI, which is capable of generating human-like text based on the input it is given. The model is trained on a large corpus of text data and can generate responses to questions, summarize long texts, write stories and much more. It is often used in conversational AI applications to simulate a human-like conversation with users. As educators, our alarm bells ought to be going off–and not for the most commonly expressed reasons (e.g., many students will use ChatGPT or other, similar tools to cheat; the way we teach writing might need to be completely reimagined).

How Is the Medical Industry Using Deep Learning?

#artificialintelligence

The healthcare industry continues to be a major driver of the U.S. economy, with more than $3.5 trillion spent on healthcare in 2018 alone. Researchers believe that the industry will contribute more than $5.6 trillion to the economy by 2025. Much of this revenue comes from the medical research field, which is responsible for improving drug research, disease diagnosis and treatment protocols. Major research companies are collaborating with software development services to integrate deep learning technology into their investigations. Deep learning promises to transform the way that doctors review medical tests and make diagnoses, helping them identify diseases and start treatment quicker.

DeepMind: First major AI patent filings revealed

#artificialintelligence

DeepMind, a leading artificial intelligence (AI) research company, has filed a series of international patent applications, which have now been published for the first time. The applications relate to a number of the fundamental aspects of modern day machine learning, and are therefore of potential significance to anyone operating in the commercial AI sector. Background to DeepMind DeepMind is a London based artificial intelligence (AI) research company, widely recognized as being at the forefront of the field. The Billionaire, who also runs a not-for-profit artificial intelligence research company, warned that the futuristic technology could be deadly if it falls into the wrong hands. He has previously said that the research company, OpenAI, wants to "contract large corporations who may gain too much power by owning super-intelligence systems devoted to profits, as well as governments which may use AI to gain power and even oppress their citizens" but has extended that warning further. Speaking to Sam Altman, co-chairman of OpenAI, he claimed that countries would attempt to steal control away from its owner. However, Mr Musk reassured the public that AI technology would not develop a mind of its own and attack like scenes fictionalised in science fiction hit Terminator.

OpenAI will use Reddit and a new supercomputer to teach artificial intelligence how to speak

OpenAI, Elon Musk's artificial intelligence research company, just became the proud owner of the first ever DGX-1 supercomputer. Made by NVIDIA, the rig boasts a whopping 170 teraflops of computing power, equivalent to 250 usual servers -- and OpenAI is gonna use it all to read Reddit comments. OpenAI's researchers gather around the first AI supercomputer in a box, NVIDIA DGX-1. OpenAI is a non-profit AI research company whose purpose is to "advance digital intelligence in the way that is most likely to benefit humanity as a whole, unconstrained by a need to generate financial return." And now, NVIDIA CEO CEO Jen-Hsun Huang just delivered the most powerful tool the company has ever had at its disposal, a US 2 billion supercomputer.
